Renowned as Jamaica’s first feature film, this cinema trailblazer and mainstay of Grindhouse moviehouses quickly became a cult classic soon after its initial release.
Made on a shoestring budget, the film stars the iconic Jimmy Cliff, who participated in giving the soundtrack legendary status, helping to make reggae music popular worldwide.
Ivanhoe Martin (Cliff), a renegade rural musician, journeys to Kingston looking for fame and fortune, but only finds disappointment with the corrupt music industry. Becoming an outlaw after a producer refuses to play his record, Ivan achieves such notoriety while on the run from the police that eventually the producer can’t resist airing his music. Meanwhile, Ivan finds himself in a battle that threatens not only his life, but the very fabric of Jamaican society.
More than fifty years after its release, the film is still an electric experience, made to be seen on the big screen!
