"Craig is sensational in a role swimming in psychological complexity, which he marshals with rare intuition and grace... Queer doesn’t scrimp on provocation and pleasure, but it’s also a beautiful film about male loneliness, and the way a solitary life can so easily shade into a life sentence." - Robbie Collin, The Telegraph
The second film this year from the brilliant and the audacious filmmaker Luca Guadagnino ("Challengers").
Adapted from his 1985 autobiographical novel, William S. Burroughs', "Queer", sees William Lee (Daniel Craig), an American expat in post-war Mexico City, spends his days almost entirely alone, except for a few contacts with other members of the community. His encounter with Eugene Allerton, an expat former soldier, shows him that it might be finally possible to establish an intimate connection. Their adventures lead to unexpected encounters teaching Lee about "the algebra of need," as defined by Burroughs.
